Debating the idea of taking 6 years to do a part time physics and maths degree via The Open University. Just to give me a framework to teach myself maths. I really have a bee in my bonnet about learning maths. It’s like my own Mount Everest. The modules leading to the degree would be:
MU123 – Discovering mathematics
MST121 – Using mathematics
MS221 – Exploring mathematics
MST209 – Mathematical models and methods
S207 – The physical world
S282 – Astronomy
S382 – Astrophysics
S383 – The relativistic universe
SM358 – The quantum world
SXP390 – Science project course: radiation and matter
Then again I might just do it self study via books I’ve got and not get the degree. I’ve got one already
Could do a Masters in something else to get more paper!
Don’t waste your time studying mathematics with the Open Univeristy to study ; it’s very poor and likely to regress you.
I couldn’t disagree with this more. The OU is a brilliant institution and a great way to study many subjects, including maths, if you want to do it part time.
Hi Ian
Having completed 300 of the required 360 points for my OU Honours Degree, I wholeheartedly agree the OU is a brilliant way to study.
This has taken me 5 years of part time study, as I’m a full time carer.
Although the degree is Philosophy with Psychological Studies, I opted to do the S207 Module (Physical World) in 2009 – to get over the bee in MY bonnet about Physics!
All I can say is go for it – it will become addictive!
Cheers
John
